Bansberia is a city and a municipality in Hooghly district in the state of West Bengal, India. It is under Mogra/ Chinsurah police stations in Chinsurah subdivision. Bansberia is 4 km from Bandel on the Bandel-Katwa branch line.


Bansberia was one of the main villages of ancient Saptagram, once the main port and commercial complex in the area. The temples of Ananta Vasudeva and Hanseswari are famous here. The Vasudeva temple is constructed in the traditional ekaratna style with curved cornices and an octagonal tower. Hanseswari temple has a unique architectural style. There are thirteen minars, each shaped like a lotus bud, and the inner layout follows the human anatomy!This temple is noted for the terra cotta works on its walls.

The Ananta Basudeba Temple is also very beautiful with terracotta intricate works on its outside walls. The idol of Lord Basudeba is placed inside the temple. We also offered Puja and offerings at this temple. The priest told us that this temple was erected in 1678 by the ancestors of Raja Nrishingha Deb. There was a third temple nearby. This was dedicated to Maa (mother) Kali and the temple was called Swanbhaba Kali Temple. This temple is smaller than Hangsheshwari temple in size but Maa Kali is worshipped with equal devotion as Maa Hangsheshwari and Lord Basudeba.

Hangseshwari temple is a temple of goddess kali in the town of Banshberia in Hooghly District of the Indian state of West Bengal. The temple complex has another temple — Ananta Basudeba temple — besides the main temple. Also near is the Swanbhaba Kali temple built by Nrisinhadeb in 1788. The Hangseshwari temple has a distinctive architecture different from the usual pattern present in this area.

The structure of the temples is the representation of "Tantrik Satchakrabhed".
